TERMS & CONDITIONS
◈Gateway Experiences
Last Updated: August 08, 2026.
Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before submitting a reservation request or making a payment for any Amazon Expeditioners Gateway Experience.
By submitting a reservation request, accepting a quotation, making a payment, or otherwise confirming participation in a Gateway Experience, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
These Terms & Conditions apply specifically to the Gateway Experiences offered and curated by Amazon Expeditioners and are separate from the Terms & Conditions governing our Hunter-Led Expeditions.
1. ABOUT GATEWAY EXPERIENCES
Gateway Experiences are designed to provide travelers with an authentic and professionally guided introduction to the Peruvian Amazon through shorter rainforest experiences.
These experiences include:
-
EcoLodge-Based Gateway Experiences
-
Into the Wild Camping Gateway Experiences
Gateway Experiences are not Hunter-Led Expeditions.
Hunter-Led Expeditions involve significantly deeper cultural immersion, greater remoteness, longer durations, and direct participation within Indigenous hunter-led environments.
Gateway Experiences operate primarily in established Amazon tourism regions where responsible ecotourism and local tourism operations have existed for many years.
Although certain itineraries may include remote or less-visited areas, travelers should understand that Gateway Experiences may occasionally encounter other boats, travelers, guides, camps, or local tourism operators during portions of the journey.
Such encounters are a normal possibility within these established tourism regions.
2. AMAZON EXPEDITIONERS' ROLE
Amazon Expeditioners carefully reviews and recommends Gateway Experiences operated by selected local collaborators in the Peruvian Amazon.
These collaborators are selected based on factors including:
-
Professionalism
-
Local knowledge
-
Operational experience
-
Environmental responsibility
-
Respect for local communities
-
Respect for wildlife
-
Commitment to responsible tourism
Amazon Expeditioners acts as the booking, coordination, and customer-service point for Gateway Experiences offered through our platform.
The actual field operation of each experience is carried out by the corresponding local collaborator identified or designated for that experience.
Depending on the selected itinerary, the local collaborator may be responsible for:
-
Local transportation
-
River transportation
-
Accommodation
-
Camping operations
-
Meals
-
Local guiding
-
Excursions
-
Equipment
-
Safety procedures
-
Day-to-day operational decisions
Amazon Expeditioners does not represent Gateway Experiences as being personally conducted by the Amazon Expeditioners Hunter-Led Expedition team.
3. RESERVATION PROCESS
Gateway Experience reservations are subject to availability.
Travelers are encouraged to submit their reservation request at least 10 business days before their preferred departure date.
Requests submitted with shorter notice are welcome and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis according to current availability.
A reservation is not confirmed merely by submitting an inquiry or request form.
A reservation becomes confirmed only after:
-
Availability has been verified;
-
The applicable price has been confirmed;
-
The traveler has accepted the reservation details; and
-
Full payment has been successfully received and acknowledged by Amazon Expeditioners.
4. FULL PAYMENT
Gateway Experiences require 100% payment at the time of reservation confirmation, unless otherwise expressly stated in writing by Amazon Expeditioners.
Full payment is collected because Gateway Experiences involve advance commitments to local collaborators, transportation providers, accommodation providers, guides, equipment, meals, and other operational services.
Once a reservation has been confirmed and payment has been processed, Amazon Expeditioners may immediately commit corresponding funds to the local collaborators and suppliers responsible for delivering the experience.
5. PRICES AND PAYMENT PROCESSING
The total price displayed or quoted by Amazon Expeditioners represents the price payable by the traveler for the selected Gateway Experience.
The price may include Amazon Expeditioners' coordination, booking, administrative, payment-processing, and service-management costs.
The applicable price will be communicated before payment is requested.
Travelers will not be required to pay additional mandatory charges that were not previously disclosed, except where additional services are voluntarily requested by the traveler or where additional costs arise from circumstances expressly identified in the reservation terms.
For online purchases, the website should clearly display relevant pricing and purchasing conditions. Peruvian tourism guidance specifically emphasizes that digital tourism providers must provide material information clearly and accessibly, including price and purchasing conditions.
6. CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Because Gateway Experience reservations require advance commitments to local collaborators and suppliers, confirmed reservations are generally non-refundable.
However, this policy does not exclude any rights or remedies that may apply under mandatory applicable law.
If Amazon Expeditioners or its designated local collaborator is unable to provide the contracted experience for reasons attributable to the provider, Amazon Expeditioners will evaluate the appropriate solution in accordance with the circumstances and applicable law.
Depending on the situation, this may include:
-
Rebooking or rescheduling;
-
Substitution with a comparable experience;
-
Alternative arrangements; or
-
Refund of amounts applicable to services that cannot be provided.
Where weather, river conditions, government restrictions, safety concerns, natural events, or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the operator affect the itinerary, Amazon Expeditioners and the local collaborator may modify, postpone, shorten, substitute, or otherwise adjust portions of the experience when reasonably necessary for safety or operational reasons.
Travelers will be informed of significant changes as soon as reasonably possible.
Important: Travelers should not purchase non-refundable international or domestic transportation, accommodation, or other travel arrangements solely on the assumption that a Gateway Experience will proceed exactly as originally planned.
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that includes trip interruption and cancellation coverage.
7. CHANGES TO THE ITINERARY
The itineraries published on our website describe the experiences and activities generally expected to form part of each Gateway Experience.
However, rainforest travel is inherently dependent on:
-
Weather
-
River levels
-
Water conditions
-
Wildlife activity
-
Environmental conditions
-
Local regulations
-
Safety considerations
-
Accessibility
-
Operational circumstances
For these reasons, specific activities, routes, locations, schedules, or sequences may occasionally be modified.
The local collaborator may make reasonable operational changes when necessary to maintain safety, protect the environment, respect local communities, or respond to changing conditions.
Such modifications do not necessarily constitute a failure to provide the contracted experience when the overall nature and principal components of the experience remain substantially consistent with what was offered.
8. SHARED AND PRIVATE EXPERIENCES
Gateway Experiences may be available in both shared and private formats, depending on the itinerary and availability.
Shared Experiences
Shared experiences may include travelers from different countries, backgrounds, or travel groups.
Participants should understand that they may share transportation, excursions, meals, accommodation areas, boats, guides, or other portions of the experience with other travelers.
Private Experiences
Private departures may provide greater flexibility and personalization, subject to availability and operational limitations.
Private does not necessarily mean that travelers will never encounter other tourists, boats, guides, or operators during the experience.
9. OTHER TRAVELERS AND TOURISM ACTIVITY
Gateway Experiences operate in established Amazon tourism regions.
Although our collaborators may intentionally select quieter routes and less-visited locations whenever practical, travelers should understand that encounters with other tourists or tourism operators are possible.
Travelers may, for example, see:
-
Other boats on the river;
-
Other travelers during excursions;
-
Other guides or local operators;
-
Other camping groups;
-
Tourism activity around established attractions or communities.
These possibilities are part of traveling within established Amazon tourism regions and should not be confused with the significantly more isolated environments associated with our Hunter-Led Expeditions.
10. ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation depends on the selected Gateway Experience.
EcoLodge-Based Experiences
Guests stay at the designated jungle eco-lodge associated with the selected itinerary.
Into the Wild Camping Experiences
Guests stay at designated camping locations using camping equipment provided or arranged by the local collaborator.
Accommodation standards, facilities, room arrangements, camping conditions, and amenities vary according to the selected experience.
Travelers should carefully review the individual itinerary before booking.
11. TRANSPORTATION
Gateway Experiences may involve:
-
Road transportation;
-
River transportation;
-
Boats;
-
Canoes;
-
Walking;
-
Jungle trails;
-
Other locally appropriate forms of transportation.
Travel times may vary because of weather, river conditions, traffic, loading procedures, water levels, or other operational circumstances.
Travelers are responsible for arriving at designated meeting points at the times communicated in their reservation information.
12. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Gateway Experiences are generally designed to be accessible to a wide range of travelers.
However, the Amazon is a natural environment and participants may encounter:
-
Uneven terrain;
-
Mud;
-
Heat and humidity;
-
Rain;
-
Insects;
-
Long periods in boats;
-
Jungle trails;
-
Swimming or water activities;
-
Camping conditions;
-
Limited facilities;
-
Early morning or nighttime excursions.
Travelers are responsible for honestly evaluating their physical condition and choosing an itinerary appropriate to their abilities.
If you have a medical condition, mobility limitation, allergy, medication requirement, or other concern that could affect your participation, you should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before traveling.
13. WILDLIFE AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed.
Animals may appear unexpectedly, remain hidden, or be absent from areas visited.
Depending on the itinerary and conditions, travelers may have opportunities to observe:
-
Pink and gray river dolphins;
-
Monkeys;
-
Sloths;
-
Birds;
-
Caimans;
-
Snakes;
-
Turtles;
-
Fish;
-
Amphibians;
-
Insects;
-
Other rainforest species.
Wild animals must never be approached, touched, fed, chased, cornered, or otherwise disturbed.
Wildlife observation is conducted according to the guidance of the local guides and applicable environmental practices.
14. WEATHER AND RIVER CONDITIONS
Amazonian conditions can change quickly.
Rain, high temperatures, humidity, river levels, currents, storms, flooding, drought, or other natural conditions may affect the itinerary.
The local collaborator and guides may modify activities or routes when conditions make the original plan impractical or unsafe.
Safety takes priority over maintaining a specific itinerary sequence.
15. HEALTH, VACCINATIONS AND MEDICAL PREPARATION
Travelers are responsible for obtaining appropriate medical and travel-health advice before visiting the Amazon.
Vaccination recommendations and health requirements may vary according to:
-
Country of origin;
-
Previous vaccination history;
-
Travel itinerary;
-
Duration of travel;
-
Current public-health guidance.
Amazon Expeditioners does not provide individual medical advice.
Travelers should consult an appropriately qualified healthcare professional or travel-medicine provider before departure.
16. TRAVEL INSURANCE
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Travelers should consider coverage for:
-
Medical treatment;
-
Emergency evacuation;
-
Trip interruption;
-
Trip cancellation;
-
Lost or delayed baggage;
-
Personal belongings;
-
Travel delays;
-
Other unexpected circumstances.
Travel insurance is not included unless specifically stated in the selected Gateway Experience.
17. PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Travelers are responsible for their personal belongings, documents, money, electronics, cameras, luggage, and other valuables.
Amazon Expeditioners and its local collaborators are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
Travelers should avoid bringing unnecessary valuables into the rainforest.
18. RESPONSIBLE TOURISM
All participants are expected to respect:
-
The rainforest;
-
Wildlife;
-
Indigenous and local communities;
-
Local customs;
-
Guides and staff;
-
Other travelers;
-
Environmental regulations.
Participants must not intentionally damage vegetation, disturb wildlife, leave waste behind, pollute waterways, or engage in behavior that threatens the safety or dignity of local communities.
Guests are encouraged to minimize single-use plastics and follow responsible waste-management practices.
19. LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND CULTURAL RESPECT
Some Gateway Experiences may include visits to or interactions with local riverside or Indigenous communities.
These interactions must be conducted respectfully.
Travelers should follow the instructions of their guides regarding:
-
Photography;
-
Personal interaction;
-
Cultural practices;
-
Appropriate behavior;
-
Access to community areas.
Visitors should never assume that people or cultural activities are available for photography or observation without permission.
20. ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND UNSAFE BEHAVIOR
The use of illegal drugs is prohibited.
Excessive alcohol consumption or behavior that creates a safety risk to the participant, guides, local communities, or other travelers is not permitted.
The local operator may restrict participation in an activity or remove a participant from an experience when their behavior presents a serious safety or operational concern.
No refund is guaranteed in cases where a participant is removed from an experience because of prohibited, dangerous, abusive, or seriously disruptive behavior.
21. PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES
Participants agree to:
-
Follow reasonable instructions provided by guides;
-
Respect safety procedures;
-
Respect local communities;
-
Respect wildlife;
-
Follow environmental guidelines;
-
Provide accurate information during the reservation process;
-
Inform the operator of relevant medical or dietary requirements;
-
Arrive on time for scheduled departures;
-
Bring the recommended equipment and clothing;
-
Behave responsibly throughout the experience.
Failure to follow reasonable safety or operational instructions may result in restricted participation.
22. LANGUAGE AND GUIDING
Gateway Experiences may be operated by local guides who speak Spanish and/or English, depending on the selected program.
Language availability will be identified as part of the individual experience information or reservation confirmation.
Travelers should understand that the level of English spoken by local guides may vary.
23. PHOTOGRAPHY AND CONTENT
Travelers may take photographs and videos for personal use during their experience, subject to the instructions of local guides and respect for wildlife and local communities.
Commercial photography, filming, interviews, or other professional media activities may require prior authorization.
24. CHILDREN AND MINORS
Age requirements may vary according to the selected Gateway Experience.
Certain activities may not be appropriate for young children because of environmental, transportation, physical, or safety considerations.
Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult unless otherwise expressly approved in writing.
The minimum age for each itinerary may be communicated during the reservation process.
25. SPECIAL REQUESTS
Travelers may communicate special requests regarding:
-
Dietary requirements;
-
Accommodation preferences;
-
Private departures;
-
Mobility considerations;
-
Other relevant needs.
Requests are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed unless specifically confirmed in writing.
26. EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
In the event of an emergency, the local guide or operator will take reasonable measures based on the circumstances, available resources, environmental conditions, and applicable safety procedures.
Because Gateway Experiences take place in rainforest environments, access to medical facilities may be limited or delayed.
Travelers acknowledge the importance of maintaining appropriate travel insurance and informing the operator of relevant medical information before departure.
27. OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
The local collaborator responsible for the selected Gateway Experience is responsible for the direct execution of the field activities included in the itinerary.
Amazon Expeditioners is responsible for the booking, coordination, communication, and customer-service aspects associated with the reservation made through our platform, subject to these Terms & Conditions and applicable law.
Where a service is provided by a third-party collaborator or supplier, travelers acknowledge that the service may be subject to that provider's operational procedures and applicable regulations.
28. FORCE MAJEURE
Amazon Expeditioners and its local collaborators shall not be responsible for delays, modifications, interruptions, or inability to provide portions of an experience caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to:
-
Severe weather;
-
Flooding;
-
Extreme river conditions;
-
Natural disasters;
-
Government restrictions;
-
Public-health emergencies;
-
Civil unrest;
-
Transportation disruptions;
-
Unexpected environmental conditions;
-
Other events beyond reasonable operational control.
Where such circumstances occur, reasonable alternatives or rescheduling options may be considered depending on the circumstances and availability.
