FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These questions address the most common points of clarification before requesting an expedition. If your question is not answered here, it may be addressed during the review process after your request is submitted.
1. GENERAL ALIGNMENT
Is this a tour, retreat, or guided adventure?
No.
Amazon Expeditioners does not offer tours, retreats, or recreational adventures.
Our programs are immersive survival expeditions and coexistence experiences led by indigenous Amazonian hunters and structured around discipline, adaptation, and respect for the forest.
If you are seeking comfort, entertainment, or a short-term experience, these programs are not aligned with your expectations.
How do we define a tour versus an expedition?
For us Tours are designed around comfort, predictability, and consumption.
-
Fixed itinerary and schedule
-
Pre-arranged lodging, meals, transport
-
You are a client or spectator
-
Experiences are curated, filtered, and safe by design
-
Little is required from you beyond showing up
-
The environment adapts to you
Think: you pass through a place, take photos, listen, leave.
Tours are about seeing.
Our Expeditions in this case are nature-based immersions grounded in adaptation, active participation, and purposeful engagement.
-
Flexible, evolving route and rhythm
-
Conditions are real and sometimes uncomfortable
-
You are a participant, not an observer
-
Skills, discipline, and responsibility are required
-
Outcomes are not guaranteed or scripted
-
You adapt to the environment
Think: you live inside the place, learn from it, and are changed by it.
Expeditions are about becoming.
In one sentence
-
Tours ask: “What can this place give me?”
-
Expeditions ask: “Who do I need to become to be here?”
Are filming, photography, or documentation allowed during expeditions?
Yes, but only after prior approval has been granted.
Amazon Expeditioners expeditions are not media or content-creation experiences.
Participant-led filming, photography, audio recording, or documentation is not permitted by default.
Any exception must be explicitly authorized in writing by Amazon Expeditioners and approved by indigenous leadership. If authorized, documentation is strictly limited, secondary to participation, and may be restricted or stopped at any time without explanation.
Documentation of indigenous individuals, rituals, medicinal practices, hunting methods, leadership decisions, or moments of risk is never permitted.
If your engagement with an experience depends on capturing or producing content, this program is not a suitable fit.
Do I need prior survival experience?
No formal survival training is required.
However, participants must be physically and mentally prepared for prolonged exposure to jungle conditions, discomfort, uncertainty, and limited external support.
Readiness matters more than experience.
Are these programs suitable for beginners?
Yes — if the participant is serious, adaptable, and humble.
Beginner does not mean unprepared.
Participants must be capable of following instruction, respecting indigenous authority, and adapting to unfamiliar rhythms without resistance.
Are there age requirements for participation?
Yes.
Our expeditions require a level of physical resilience, emotional maturity, and personal responsibility that not all ages possess.
-
Coexisting with Hunters
Participants must be 18 years or older.
Minors 14–17 years old may be considered only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and only after an alignment review. -
Becoming a Hunter
This program is strictly 18+. No exceptions.
All participants — regardless of age — are individually reviewed to ensure readiness, maturity, and alignment with the realities of long-form nomadic life in remote Amazonian territories.
Age alone does not guarantee acceptance.
Do we work with travel agencies or booking platforms?
No.
Amazon Expeditioners operates independently and does not distribute its programs through third-party agencies, booking platforms, or tourism networks.
All participation is managed directly through our official request and alignment process.
2. PROGRAM STRUCTURE & COMMITMENT
What is the difference between “Coexisting with Hunters” and “Becoming a Hunter”?
Coexisting with Hunters focuses on immersion, observation, and adaptation through daily life alongside indigenous hunters.
Becoming a Hunter is a long-form survival apprenticeship focused on skill development, discipline, and progressive responsibility.
One is about presence.
The other is about transformation.
Can I customize the program?
For shared expeditions, no.
Structure, phases, and rhythm are fixed and non-negotiable.
For private expeditions, limited flexibility may be possible, provided it does not compromise:
-
Safety
-
Indigenous protocols
-
Program integrity
All requests are evaluated individually.
How many participants are in each expedition?
Group sizes are intentionally small.
-
Coexisting with Hunters → 2–6 participants
-
Becoming a Hunter → 2–4 participants
Both for Shared or Private Expeditions
This ensures safety, focus, and respect for indigenous hosts.
3. SAFETY, HEALTH & RESPONSIBILITY
Is this experience safe?
The jungle is not a controlled environment.
Safety is managed through:
-
Indigenous expertise
-
Experience-based protocols
-
Progressive exposure
-
Clear behavioral boundaries
However, participants must accept that risk is inherent and cannot be eliminated.
Do I need medical clearance?
Participants must disclose all relevant medical conditions during the request process.
Certain conditions may disqualify participation for safety reasons.
Failure to disclose medical information may result in removal from the program without refund.
Will I have communication access?
Communication is limited.
There is no guaranteed phone or internet access during expeditions.
Emergency communication protocols exist but are used only when necessary.
This is intentional and part of the experience.
4. LOGISTICS & EXPECTATIONS
Where do expeditions take place?
All programs take place in the Peruvian Amazon, based out of the Loreto region, Iquitos city.
Exact locations vary depending on program type, season, and indigenous community involvement.

Participants are expected to arrive properly equipped.
Failure to do so may affect participation or safety.
When should I arrive?
Participants must arrive in Iquitos at least one day before the expedition start date.
Detailed arrival instructions are provided after confirmation.
5. REQUEST & SELECTION PROCESS
How do I request an expedition?
All participation begins with a Request an Expedition submission.
This includes:
-
An intake questionnaire
-
Alignment review
-
Recommendation of program duration and structure
This process protects participants, guides, and program integrity.
Is acceptance guaranteed?
No.
Participation is selective.
Not all requests are approved.
Alignment matters more than availability.
