The Yarapa Community Reserve has been formally recognized by INRENA, the Peruvian government's national parks division. The Yarapa River is located in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. The area is the subject of scientific research, as well as being a tourist destination. This river is also home to many species of caimans.

IMPORTANT TIPS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR TRIP:

  • BOOKING IN ADVANCED IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (for collection of personal information, government access permits to protected areas, transportation arrangements, assignment of the exploration team, English Speaking Guides availability, and all logistics support needed).

  • Be advised that you are booking a PRIVATE TRIP on this page, and since this trip belongs to you and your group only, we'll be open for adjustments as far as the start and ending time of your trip. This way we can make travel easier for you or group based on your flight schedule.

  • Ensure to have sufficient time in Iquitos, in order to successfully execute the selected expedition.

  • We highly recommend bringing an exploratory backpack of 10 kilos maximum per participant.

  • Be advised that each participant will be provided with the following additional gear (jungle boots, raincoats, sleeping mats, and tents) 5 kilos approx.

  • Participants will not be always required to carry their exploratory backpacks with them in comparison to the AMAZON CROSSING EXPEDITIONS.

  • Now, remember what plays in your favor, and don't be disappointed! This trip belongs to you and your group only; we will always go at your pace.

  • All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions at any time of the year. Main Rivers and tributary levels may vary and thus navigation times and excursions may need to be modified at the guide’s discretion, this will not alter our motivation to make this trip the best as possible.

ITINERARY:
  

DAY 1  
08:00 Ground Transportation pickup from hotel to Iquitos-Nauta Rural Express Road.
10:30 Arrival to the City of Nauta.
11:00 Nauta City Tour.
12:00 River Navigation downstream on the Maranon River in Route to Puerto Miguel (Yarapa Communal Reserve).

  • Lunch on board.

 

What To Experience On Your River Navigation:

  • Pass and stop for instructional orientation right in the encounter of (3) Major Rivers, The Maranon River, The Ucayali River, and The Amazon River. IT IS AT THIS POINT WHERE IT IS KNOWN AS THE BEGINNING OF THE AMAZON RIVER, WHICH IT ENDS DISCHARGING ITS WATERS IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN.

  • Navigation will continue upstream through The Ucayali River.

  • Navigation will change its course to enter The Yarapa River.

  • Observation of fauna and flora will take place during this entire navigation.

14:00 Arrival to “Puerto Miguel Village”, Lunch will be served at arrival.

15:00 Boat excursion in search of pink river dolphins, observation of sunset, and swimming in the river (optional).

17:30 Return to Puerto Miguel.

18:00 Dinner is served.

19:00 Night exploration hike in search for nocturnal wildlife.

 

(Overnight in Camping Tents).

 

DAY 2

05:30 Early exploration in Search of "Sloths" the perennial bears (Bradypus tridactylus).
07:30 Breakfast is served.
09:00 Piranhas fishing (Serrasalmus nattereri) and forest search for primates.
13:00 Lunch is served.
14:00 Visits to the community to share customs, and observation of aquatic plant Victoria Regia also known as "Victoria Amazonica".
17:00 Rest.
19:00
 Dinner is served.
20:00 Canoeing trip in search of caimans.

(Overnight in Camping Tents).

 

DAY 3-4

05:30 Boat exploration on the Yarapa River in search of monkeys and birds

  • Observation of sunrise.

08:00 Breakfast is served.
09:00 Hike deep into the jungle in search of camping areas.
11:00 Preparation of camping ground and setting up camping equipment.

13:00 Lunch is served.


During this day we will also perform the following activities:

  • Jungle hike through the primary jungle in search of wildlife.

  • Search for Remote Lakes for a boating adventure.

  • Night excursion in search of nocturnal monkeys and other animals.

  • Identification of animal tracks and footprints..

  • Construction of animal traps for survival purpose.

  • Nocturnal explorations in search of tarantulas and other insects.

  • Caiman catch and release (if small caimans are found). 

  • Preparation of Dinner in the middle of the jungle.

 

18:00 Dinner is served.

(Overnight in Camping Tents).

 

DAY 5

05:30 Bird watching and appreciation of wildlife sounds.
08:00 Breakfast is served.
09:00 Jungle Excursion.

  • Identification of medicinal plants and timber trees.

  • Drinking water from forest vines "Soga de agua".

  • Searching for the giant tree, largest of the jungle "Lupuna".

12:00 Lunch is served.
13:00 River navigation in return to Nauta City (3 hours).
15:00 Arrival to Nauta City.

  • Private transportation back to Iquitos city (1:40 hrs).

16:30-17:30 Arrival to Iquitos.

  • Transfer to the hotel/airport (End of the Journey).
