Pacaya-Samiria Navigator 6D/5N, It's just another interesting itinerary to one of the best ecological attractions and destinations of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest "The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve". During these Expeditions, visitors will visit several remote lagoons and creeks. Visitors will also have the opportunity to Navigate as far as to the "Sacarita the Yarina Creek" where the wildlife encounter will definitely get better.

 

IMPORTANT TIPS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR TRIP:

  • BOOKING IN ADVANCED IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (for collection of personal information, government access permits to protected areas, transportation arrangements, assignment of the exploration team, English Speaking Guides availability, and all logistics support needed).

  • Be advised that you are booking a PRIVATE TRIP on this page, and since this trip belongs to you and your group only, we'll be open for adjustments as far as the start and ending time of your trip. This way we can make travel easier for you or group based on your flight schedule.

  • Ensure to have sufficient time in Iquitos, in order to successfully execute the selected expedition.

  • We highly recommend bringing an exploratory backpack of 10 kilos maximum per participant.

  • Be advised that each participant will be provided with the following additional gear (jungle boots, raincoats, sleeping mats, and tents) 5 kilos approx.

  • Participants will not be always required to carry their exploratory backpacks with them in comparison to the AMAZON CROSSING EXPEDITIONS.

  • Now, remember what plays in your favor, and don't be disappointed! This trip belongs to you and your group only; we will always go at your pace.

  • All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions at any time of the year. Main Rivers and tributary levels may vary and thus navigation times and excursions may need to be modified at the guide’s discretion, this will not alter our motivation to make this trip the best as possible.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1  
08:00 Private transportation from Iquitos to Nauta City.
10:00 Arrival to Nauta City, followed by a city tour.
12:00 Departure upstream boating on the Marañon River into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (50 miles SW / approximately 3 hours and a half from Nauta).

  • Arrival at the reserve’s entrance checkpoint, passenger's identification will be required.

  • Arrival in the Arequipa community, camping equipment set up.

  • Lunch will be served upon arrival.

  • Observation of diverse species of birds along the way, including egrets, jacanas, parrots hawks, horned screamers, and parakeets. 

  • If lucky visitors will have the possibility to observe Pink and Grey River dolphins.

  • Observation of sunset.

  • Catch and release caiman excursion, visitors will have the opportunity to hold, touch, and take photos with the caimans.

  • Return to Camp for Dinner.

DAY 2
06:00 Breakfast will be served.   

  • We will cruise the Marañon River for about 3 hours until we reach our destination (Shansho Lake). During the riverboat trip, you will have a great possibility of seeing primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbanks.

  • Arrival to campsite area #2, Lunch will follow.

Something that immediately catches our attention is the black waters of the rivers, which reflects with such an identical image of the sky, the clouds, the bank’s vegetation, and the huge trees, visitors will have the sensation of traveling on mirrors; this is why the Pacaya Samiria is many times referred to as the “jungle of the mirrors”.

  • Piranha fishing, and other species of fish.

  • Dinner will be served at the Camping site.

  • Night jungle excursion will follow in search of (nocturnal monkeys, lizards, snakes, and spiders).

DAY 3
05:30 Navigation upstream into the National Reserve via Maranon River for observation of monkeys, toucans, and lazy bears, breakfast will be served on board, later will be entering the Yanayacu River (close to Pueblo 20 de Enero).

  • We will cruise the river until we reach our destination. During the riverboat trip, you will have a great possibility of seeing many other species of animals along the riverbanks.

Arrival at Camping site #3, Lunch will follow.

  • Jungle hike into the Pacaya Samiria Reserve where visitors will have the unique opportunity to see a vast number of butterflies, much other wildlife, and interact in their natural habitat. We will see and learn about various types of Amazonian medicinal plants such as the Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi), Cats Claw Vine (uncaria tomentosa), Victoria Amazonica, Ceiba Tree, Sensitive Plant (mimosa pudica), and more.

  • Jungle hike will continue to visit some remote lagoons. Where they hold a great variety of palms, large trees, and a beautiful landscape.

  • While at this Lagoons we can conduct the following activities, dependent on the visitors' desires such as trekking, canoe rides, fishing, and identification of plants, animal spotting or maybe just relaxing with a nice cool swim in one of the lagoons.

19:00 Dinner will be served.

DAY 4
05:30 Observation of fauna and flora.

07:30 Breakfast will be served.

  • While we still in 20 de Enero area we will continue our jungle daily trekking, visiting other remote lagoons like "Japon Creek" and "Yanta Lake" in search of more wildlife and fishing activities.

13:30 Lunch will be served.

  • Boating in search of wild animals.

17:30 Rest
19:00 Dinner will be served.

  • Night jungle exploration.

  • Assembly of camping equipment.

DAY 5
07:00 Breakfast will be served.
08:00 Day Excursion to "Sacarita de Yarina" in searches of other animals like turtles with a great chance to see the elusive giant river otters, great swimmers, and fishers.
13:00 Arrival to the destination to set up Camping area.
14:00 We will stop for Lunch.

  • At night time after dinner, we will conduct a night excursion in wooden canoes to search for a variety species of nocturnal animals; this also gives us the enjoyable opportunity to hear the symphony of sounds that come from the forest at night.

DAY 6
05:30 Excursion to the primary jungle for early observation of wildlife.

07:00 Breakfast is served.
08:00 Navigation in return to Nauta city.
15:00-16:00 Arrival to Nauta city.

  • Private transportation back to Iquitos city. 

 

17:00-18:00 Arrival to Iquitos.

  • Transfer to the hotel and airport (End of the Journey).
