MATSES EXPEDITION 10D/9N, This 10-day trip to the Matses territory is considered an express expedition to the Matses territory, since compared to the longest trips of between 13, 15 or more days, this is one organized for travelers who do not have enough time on their agenda to achieve a more extensive trip and reach certain points of exploration within its territory, as well as for those who are not focused on seeking for a very demanding physical experience based on prolonged exploration hikes or extreme survival by crossing the primary jungle for multiple days, rather are trips for those who are more interested in sharing only quality time with the members of the tribe for different reasons, be it for photography, short documentaries, explorations of fauna and flora in the area, etc. Please review the small details of this program and compare it with those of lesser or more days to self-evaluate your decision.

THE MATSES OR MOYORUNA are indigenous people of the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon. The tribe's ancestral lands are currently being encroached by illegal logging practices and poaching. These homelands are located between the Javari and Galvez rivers. The Matsés have guarded their lands against both other indigenous tribes and outsider colonials. The approximately 3,200 Matsés people speak the Matsés language which belongs to the Panoan language family. In the last thirty years, they have become a largely settled people living mostly in permanent forest settlements. However, they still rely on hunting and gathering for most of their subsistence. Their main source of income comes from selling peccary hides and meat.

IMPORTANT TIPS ABOUT YOUR EXPEDITION:

  • BOOKING IN ADVANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (for collection of personal information, government access permits to protected areas, transportation arrangements, exploration team assignments, English Speaking Guides availability, and all logistics support needed).

  • We recommend travelers to have FLEXIBLE AIRPLANE TICKETS to and from Iquitos in case we experience delays with the hydroplanes due to weather conditions to/from the Angamos Town, this is only in situations that very rarely happen, it is better to plan intelligently to be able to execute this expedition successfully.

  • Participants' exploratory backpacks weight limit is 10 kilos max, excess weight will not be accepted by the pilot.

  • An additional 5 kilos of gear will be issue to each participant when exploring the jungle (jungle boots, ponchos, mats, blankets, tents and service utensils).

  • The only available entry and exit option to access this very express expedition to the Matses territory, will be by hydroplane to and from Angamos only.

  • All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions at any time of the year. Main Rivers and tributary levels may vary and thus navigation times and excursions may need to be modified at the guide’s discretion, this will not alter our motivation to make this trip the best as possible.
